It was the first dry home game of the season, which was accompanied by our first loss of the season. The DasMagicians were defeated at home on Sunday by FC Charter. In the opening minutes of the match Tommy W. took a man down in the box. The visiting team was awarded a penalty kick and Tommy W. ($20 dollar fee) was given a red card. The home team had to play the rest of the half a man down. At the break the score was 1-0. Not having Tommy W., Trent, Charlie, Eddie and or more subs hurt us in the long run but we still played good considering the situations. Starting the second half the visiting team scored “tew” more goals. It did not look good for the might DasMagicians.
Then out from behind the tennis courts came Pauly, fresh legs, decent speed, was he to be “The Equalizer”? At first it seemed like that was the case. Both Chris and Eric “The GM” scored goals and put us back in it. But then came the red cards, Tony received one for talking to an opposing player and to the ref ($20 dollar fee). Then what seemed like seconds later, Pauly received one for retaliation ($20 dollar fee). With 20 minutes left in the game we were down to 7 men on the field and Ihor. Within minutes they put another goal in the net and injured out goalie “Herbie”, so Fergie took up the goalie position. Fulton took a shot that hit the crossbar but that was as close as we got and the visitors managed to put another one in. The final score read 5-2 bad guys.
On the up side, we out megged them 2-0, and we are still in first place by one point. (FC Charter has only played 5 games versus our 7 games) The plan to stay in the second division seems to be working. It looks like we will remain in first place until the end of the season when the makeup games are played and then end up in second place again. The GM has been producing goals consistently, good job Eric. With three away games left it seems like the “fan of the season” award will go to Chris Roe’s girlfriend.
According to the schedule it looks like we do not play next week, the next game is on 6/2 at Skinner Park between Quincy and Monroe and between Ashland and Racine. We play Arrigo United which we defeated 4-1 earlier in the season.
Until next time, The Statistician
