The sun again was shinning down on Das Magic Stadium on a sunday morning that seemed made for soccer. As the collection of Celtic's on the other side of the center mark only totalled nine players, it didn't look to be much of a challange ahead. Some of the luster was already off the game, since we had already locked up the championship for the fall season. It turns out, our initial assumptions were incorrect, and while the opponent plugged up the middle and pushed us to the wings, our incredible lack of finishing kept this game close.
From the start of the match, we were peppering their agile goalkeeper with soft crosses and misdirected shots. While the goalie's performance was notable, a well-placed shot or two would have put this game out of reach. As noted in post-game analysis by Virgis, they continued to force our attach to the outside, or shots at the top of the semi-circle.
After a frustrating eighty-nine minutes of 'soccer', the game-defining play led us to victory and controversy. As time expired and Eddy V. holding the referee's whistle, we were faily awarded a corner kick. Chris Roe headed the driven kick to the far side of the net. The G.M has perfect position on the keeper, blocking him from smothering the ball. The ball bounced in the box like a pinball, eventually ending up on the "'Bulldogs'" foot. While Erich screened the goalie's view, Timmy scuttled the ball in the goal for a game-ending goal.
Although Celtic FC was not happy with the result of the way it happened, they put forth an excellent effort and continue to be a favorite opponent in the league.
Let's keep this train rolling...
