You couldn't have ordered up and more perfect day for soccer! The field was in perfect condition and the sun was shining.
There was some question as to who was playing? Yes, the players were wearing the traditional red Das Magic jerseys. Yes, the faces were familiar. But, it was ten minutes to ten in the morning and the roster was completely filled out including jersey numbers and there were fifteen players present and knocking the ball around on the pitch!?!?!?!?
Well, the warm up seems to work (a little bit..). From the start, Das Magic was knocking the ball around the field, connecting several passes in succession. There were opportunities 'a-plenty'; but, no tallies. CKS Warta B was a young squad with some tall guys and a ton of energy, but, not much else. Despite our domination in possession and chances in the first half, we went to the bench at the break locked in a 0-0 tie.
It was a welcome sight to look back into goal and see 'ol timer' Marco Parducci making his triumphant return to the Das Magic club (no offense G.M.). The sweet sound of 'Ca-te-na-cho' echoing from the goalmouth...
We continued to maintain possession and press offensively as the second half progressed. Finally, Nick Roe, finished a well-laid through ball by Trent inside the keeper's reach to give us a 1-0 lead. Most thought that would open the floodgates for another five or six goals (at least I did). That didn't happen. As a matter of fact, a few minutes later, on one of Warta's few offensive ventures they scored a goal that was called back on an offside call. This was the third game in a row that a goal was disallowed because of a foul or offside!
Though we played about ten minutes of suspect soccer in the middle of the second period, we settled back into a some Das Magic play and put a few more goals on the board.
Here is Marco's version of what happened on goal number two: p.s. if no one takes credit for the second goal - Goalie Marco Parducci scored a header on an overlapping run out of the back ala Schrira...But the consensus is that Timmy N. laid off an assist to Ben S. for a 2-1 lead
The goal that made the final 3-1 was three solid touches on the ball. Jimmy took a deadball from just inside the offensive half. As he had been doing all day, he hit a laser deep to the endline. Timmy N. headed to ball to a wide open Nick R. in front of the goal mouth. Nick knocked a left-footed volly into the net with his instep for his second goal of the day. Well done Nicholas!
