A familiar 'tail of the tape' for a Das Magic loss....and many of our wins!
'Blah, blah, blah we outplayed them up and down the pitch....blah, blah, blah.... we missed a bunch of easy opportunities....blah, blah, blah....they won'
It gets tough to write week after week. So, here are the painful details:
In the first ten minutes of the match we had two missed 'knock in' headers and two 'front of the net' scrambles that should have put us ahead 1-0 in the early going. Instead we dominated as stayed at a 0-0 count. About midway through the first half, we had a well-struck dead ball at the goalie. The mishandled ball popped out in front of the keeper to the charging Ben S. Fresh from the pine, Ben put us on top 1-0 with a great 'old guy' goal!
The lead was short lived as Agua scored a tough own goal header off a corner kick.
Out domination was soon rewarded again when Chris Roe found a tiny hole in the wall on a direct kick and struck a low sharp ball off the hands of a diving goal keeper and over the goal line. Things looks promising for two victories in two games as we headed to half with a 2-1 advantage and clear control of the run of play.
Twenty-five minutes into the second half, not much had changed. The domination and missed opportunites piled up with Ultras rarely passing the middle third of the field with possession of the ball. The momentum quickly shifted when a long cross from right to left was deftly 'half volly-chipped' over the outstretched hands of an out-of-position Reed in goal. This knotted the teams at 2-2 with about 15 minutes or so left to play. Reed quickly redeamed himself minutes later when a defensive breakdown created a break away opportunity when his kick-save parried the sure goal wide of the net.
Still, this was not enough. Confusion between Reed and Agua let a ball sneak in during a scramble to give the opposition the lead for good. Even still, we created at least five more solid opportunties to tie/win the match before the final second ticked off the game clock.Count how many times I used the work 'opportunities' in this review...it hurts!
