It was a very late Sunday night match against a very young, very fast and skilled Team Hrvat (HNNK). After a long weekend, the scheduled 5:00pm game was pushed even later to 5:45pm.
As has been usual early in this season, we only made eleven at the start with a trip from Jjimmy in from three clicks away. With a second consecutive week, Filip V. made an appearance to give us help with numbers (and post-game beverages).
To quote Jimmy about ten minutes into the match, 'You ever get the feeling you are in trouble?'. They were coming fast and hard. It was a hot, humid day and we were keeping the shots at a distance. About fifteen minutes in, a trip in the box gave penalty shot that was barely converted (Reed made a proper guess and got a hand on it. The wheels temporarial came of as they push in two more goals in the next 20 minutes. The 3-0 lead by HNNK looked to be the start of a route. The first half ended on a very high note for Das as a quick counter with Chris R. pushing the ball wide right, then, Chad crossed the ball all the way left to an overlapping Tommy Agua breaking down the left line. Finishing off a picture perfect play, Agua hit Paulie H. in the goal mouth as he stretched and picked the pill out of the air a fraction of a second before the keeper scooped it up. Das took a 3-1 deficit into the locker room.
After a some excellent comebacks earlier in the season, we didn't completely count our- selves out of the match, but, this opponent was markedly better than any we had played so far in the 1st division...did I mention they were young and fast?
Anyway, not long into the second half, they were still running at us hard and the score was soon 5-1. The best thing about the match for Das is that we didn't give up. We continued to push on both sides of the ball and registered a penalty kick to cut the lead to 5-2. Another shot mishandled by there goalie narrowed the difference to two on another Paulie goal that made the score 5-3. Granted, Hrvat slowed there attach and the pace of the match, but, in the last twenty minutes, DM has three or four excellent chances to score that we did not convert. The final score was 6-3 in the oppositions favor.
The reduced space of the Das Magic dome with limit the impact of their speed and fitness, the next match will be interesting
