What a difference a week makes.....With most of Das players coming off a day (or two) of partying; either from drinking and golfing for the original Das Magic manager's birthday or a bachelor party. The first home match of the season at the new home of Das for the summer (just steps from The Forge), was a great day for soccer. The field is a good fit for us; nice size and close to the sponsor bar. The grass was a bit thick for our liking, but, we adjusted.
The turnout was healthly and gave us many options and combinations. While we waited for our first goal, Trent, Tommy and Chad anchored the defense and kept the West Indie Jets out of the net. At about the half way point of the first half, Johnny M. found Chris R. wide open at the six directly in front of the net. His finish was clinical. After his goal, the offside challanges from the Jamacan Hackers went unanswered. Late in the first half, off a direct kick on one of many very bad calls, the ball popped to the top of the eighteen, and the ball found its way past Reed on a very good attempted save. We carried the 1-1 tie to the midway break.
After the midway point, we continued to dominate possession and control. Soon, an opportunity was created when Ben won a challange and the ball popped out to Irish on the top of the penalty box. He made the most of the moment, and struck the ball high to the upper left corner passed the outstretched hand of the diving keeper. The 2-1 lead didn't last long. Minutes later, Irish was on the receiving end of another great pass by Mitch inside the box. This time, he put the ball away to the upper right corner. Two shots, two goals in five minutes for Irish.
A miscommunication between Reed and 'a defender' temporarialy let the Jets back into the match with less than ten minutes left in the game. 'The Difference' quickly silenced that surge by tucking a weak side header off a corner kick into the back net.
A solid 4-2 win made our season record 3 wins, no ties and a loss.
