It was great to see future hall of famer, Anton Jenij, on the pitch on Mother's Day. No only because he is about 2/3rds of the man he used to be (weight-wise), but, also, because this is always a tough day for numbers. It was a little Das Magic throw back with Anton AND Erich on the field at the same time.
Because of some 'personal issues', I started the match in the porto-John. With a crack of the door, I was able to see the first penalty kick awarded/converted to Das Magic (crappy call by the ref) about five minutes in. Virgis was in a non-threatening position and was knocked over. Irish converted for a 1-0 lead. In the next few minutes, Paulie made an agressive move inside after stealing a badly cleared ball. Shot it pasted the goalie and it was stopped by a defender with his hands. Another converted Irish penalty kick quickly made the score 2-0 in Das Magic's favor.
Goals three and four came quickly with a pass from Paulie to Andy who scored from about ten yards out. Inside thirty minutes, Virgis made a strong run down the left sideline and crossed it along the endline to Fulton waiting at the three yardline for an easy redirect goal.
The opposition started with only ten players and were not very talented. With a 4-0 lead, the game looked well in hand. After some silly decisions, Independiente scored three times on three 'breakaways' to tighten the score to 4-3 before the break.
An injury to one of there remaining players reduced their numbers to nine and ended any chance for a competitive match. Second half goals by Virgis, Paulie and Andy finished the match at 6-3 (details are subject to review since I left early).
Next week at the forest perserve @ 135th/Central again with our favorite start time: 10am.
