After a nice run of three games at home we anticipated that we were going to have a quick trip to Conkey at 135th/Central. Not only was the game moved to 3pm, but we had to trek up to Desplaines to take on Shlama! Travelling this far is always a challange for Das, getting enough numbers to play puts the manager into overdrive. With a surprising appearance by Fulton and three dudes off the 'auxilary roster', we actually had a couple subs.
Talk about a postage-stamp sized field, this thing was most definitely the smallest field we ever played on. Couldn't be more than ninety yards long and sixty yards wide. The line up was vaguely familiar, but, with Trent and Reed out and Fulton late to the match, I was sweeping and Erich was in the goal...About five minutes into the match, they came down the right side and squeeze through a hole in the defense to the endline. I cut off the angle as the forward was not in a dangerous position. The cross he got off hit my arm and the ref called a penalty. The attempt that Erich made at saving the softly hit ball to this right can only be termed 'histerical'. I think by the time he hit the ground, the ball was out of the net and in the center circle for the kickoff!
After the 1-0 deficit, it was obvious that it was only a matter of time until we took control and added another in the 'W' column. The two touch gym practices definitly helped in this tight space. Gerry put away two very nice goals to begin and end the scoring and Andy put in another to give us three or the day.
Let's keep the ball rolling in our favor against the WI Jets.
Next week at the forest perserve @ 135th/Central again with our favorite start time: 1 pm.
