It was definitely the tale of two halves. The first was a lesson in patience and moving the ball, looking for good opportunities. The second forty-five minutes was a muddled mess of broken plays and miscommunication between Das players.
We started the match at Conkey with a good mix of old timers and youngins’. With Fulton and Trent ‘MIA’, Virgis took up the sweeper with the svelte, barely recognizable Anton Jenig stopping. We filled in the holes left by Chad and Paulie’s bachelor party excused absence, with the likes of Mitch, Alex, Gerry and the like. Working the ball patiently out of the back in the first half, we created several scoring opportunities. Mister Barsch converted a short corner from Gerry to Chris R. He hit a bending left-footer to a charging Henry who knocked in the bal with his knee or chest or stomach or whatever worked. 1-0
A badly called handball at the top of the box resulted in a direct kick from the twenty-two. A low, hard ball struck into the scrum found its way into the net, 1-1. In spite of much less cohesive play in the second half, we created a few scoring chances, including a penalty kick that we did not convert. A missed penalty kick by WI Jets and some pretty aweful passing left us with our first tie of the season.
