It was a perfect day for soccer, specially since we were able to play on the main Marist field. In typical Das Magic fashion we were fashionably late and had a solid 11 and 3-4 subs by the time the whisle blew.
The third place West Indies Jets started with 10 but had a full side 15 minutes in. We started off well in the first half, we had most of the possesion (being a man up) and had a few opportunities but could no seem to put a two good passes together for a goal. The Jets had a opportunities to put one in and just could not seem to find the net either, until the caught us on a counter attack. Andy did his best to chase the guy down (tore his calf in the process) but was not able to catch him. Reed had a few great saves and super sweeper Chad did well to keep us within striking distance.
At half the interim coaching trio of Eric, Tommy, and Henry made some moves and managed to put the right guys out there at the right time. The midfield and forwards began to move the ball much better and it resulted in Jonathan "Irish" scorring the equalizer.
The Jets did not make it any easier on themselves when one of their guys elbowed Andy in the face during a corner and was given his second yellow. They finished like they started with 10.
With about 15 left, my vote for Das Magic Rookie of the Year, Pat made a great run and was able to beat the defender to the ball and put one in for the much needed win.
We are currently in fourth place with a game in hand. A win this week and we are tied for third with the Jets and hopefully in the playoffs. We play Moldova at 10:00AM at Marist. Lets finish the season strong.
Next game on August 5th at the against our bitter rivar at 3 pm: Khaboor!!!
