Does this sound familiar to anyone?: Das Magic goes down 2-0 in the first thirty minutes of the match. Das Magic settles down, plays hard and gets back into the game with a couple goals. Das Magic fall short and ties or loses!
I will not mince words, the is the worse start (record wise) in Das Magic history. This is confusing to me. We have lots of talent; we are fielding enough players (lowest count so far this year is fourteen) and we have a *real* goalie this year. Also, the quality of opponents has been quite managable. I have thought about this, although the offense is missing their share of opportunities, we have been scoring as least 3 goals for the last four weeks, that should be enough to win. I am putting out the challange to the D, lets step it up and get a shutout this week.
Here is the quick summary. A player ran behind the defense (missed offside by the ref) and infront of Eddy to take a 1-0 lead. Before we knew it, another chip over the defense and run infront of the goalie again put them up 2-0. Things settled down and Chad tried running around the defender on a through ball into the box by Irish. A goal that was cleared out was missed by the ref, but, we continued to press. He was pulled down and Irish converted the penalty (2-1). A couple minutes later, an excellent passing combo down the left line to Chris R got behind the defense. Chris beat his winger and passed off to Irish in the goal mouth. He pushed the ball under the goalies feet to tie it up at 2-2. We put in another to take a 3-2 lead. We had the momentum and the pressure, we carried this into the second half, just couldn't convert to a goal. A combination of missed opportunites and very good saves kept us from expanding the goal differential.
Late in the match, a bad defensive clearing led quickly to the game tier at three. After the goal, one of their players tried to grab the ball and run it back to the kickoff point. With the clock stopped, this was useless, after a scuffle, it was ten v eleven (Das, down a man). In the closing minutes of the game, a ball deep in our end that probably should have been stopped for offside, was shot and deflected into the net.
Some of the ref's crucial calls haven't gone our way. Some excellent timely saves have kept us out of the goal. The defense has let in a few to many goals, and, ultimately, that is where we need to shut it down. Let us finish this half of the season with a solid victory.
