It was the first match in what was going to be a whirlwind, three matches in seven days against two of the top teams in our division. This was being played early as it was scheduled for Baraboo weekend. The last match was an 8-3 laugher, this promised to be much tougher against the first place Lancers.
The early morning match in the south suburbs was a bit too much for the young northwest-siders. Even with a late start because of a tardy ref, they only counted nine.
The two-man advantage didn't stop us from continuing to give up a goal or two in first fifteen minutes of play. An ill-advised back pass resulted in a 1-0 deficit for Das. After that goof, we were all offense. Basically, we surrounded their penalty area and bounced around short passes looking for openings. There were many, and we missed most all of them.
Finally about midway through the first half of play, Chad scored one of the best goals of the season (read the GB summary for details). We poked in two more and held to and uncomfortable 3-1 lead. They still, occasionally, had a few shots on goal; thankfully, all were rebuffed.
Another of their players left at half, making it a three man advantage. Embarrasingly, we didn't conver any chances early in the second half. Finally, with about twenty minutes left in the match, Paulie listen to me when I told him as he was running onto the field, 'Go score a goal so that we can get Reed out of the net'. Paulie buried a right-footed rocket to the upper right corner from about fifteen out to make the lead three goals. With about five minutes remaining, from goal, I had a crappy clearance and got caught flat-footed when a volly flooted over my head for a final of 4-2 in Das Magic's favor.
