The first game back from Baraboo, we were looking to continue our winning ways....four in a row and counting. We thought we would be facing a tough test with a match against the top of the table in the Red Section: F.C Kosova. To add the trepidation, the numbers were very tight, eleven at game time would have made us happy.
Most of the regular defense was injured or out of town and it was a hot, humid day on a big field. With Chris 'Virgis' Bartley in goal and Chad and Nick holding down the defense, our prospects for keeping them out of the goal looked good.
Broken toed Joey and Paulie on top, Alejandro, Irish and Kyle running the middle, we came out strong and didn't let up. There was constant pressure, the shots were coming at regular intervals, but, we just couldn't put the rock in the basket. Finally, with about thirty minutes gone, Irish sent a low, hard corner to the near post. A misplay by the goalie and the defender allowed us our first goal of the match.
The 1-0 lead we took into the second half was deceiving, we were outplaying Kosova. They were tired and we were outworking them and the results started coming. A goal from Kyle and three from Paulie put the match out of reach. A 5-0 win nailed down the five game win streak.
Not too bad, in the last two games (both at Oak Brook Park District), we have out- scored the opponents 14-2; sweet! I believe that is our longest win streak as Das Magic in the NSL, following our worse start in twenty years. Quiet a season, let's ride it to the playoffs and sell our Major division spot to Khaboor for mucho dinero, HA!
