This is the 'closest' 9-3 loss in the history of soccer. After some questionable defense, suspect goal keeping and less than stellar finishing, we were a saved penalty kick from making this game 5-4 in the second half. Alas, with no subs, Eddy, then Erich playing the field and TJ finishing in goal, we couldn't get it done.
After Paulie slotted home a tidy give go from Jonathon from the right side in the first ten minutes of the game, things were looking up. They countered less than ten minutes later with a goal off an unseen hand ball trap. After two thirty yard bombs made the score 3-1, we tried to turn the tide. The finishing was off and that didn't happen. Two garbage-y goals toward the end of the first half put us down by four.
We came out strong in the second half with a nice header goal by Kyle and another by Jonathon off some nice tippy-tappy passing at the top of the goal box that broke him in alone for an outside of the right foot finish. A combination of some good saves by their keeper, weak shots and some incredibly lucky bounces in Kosovo's favor resulted in the final score line.
Kudos to the triple winners of the Golden Boot this week with a combined age of 153 years. Eddy, Erich and TJ really showed some stuff! Eddy played a good eighty minutes in the midfield, showing and helping open opportunities. Erich played in the goal most of the match with some good saves and some not so good saves. Without him, we are playing shorthanded on an extremely hot pitch and another field player would need to move to the goal. Final, when Eddy needed to scoot, TJ came on and made some key stops to keep the opponents goal total from flipping into double digits. Cheers to two Das Hall of Fame-ers and a future HOF inductee.
