Das Magic 4 - Stare Byke 1
A 4-1 victory against Stare Byke (Old Bulls) is a great way to start the season. On a perfect spring morning, after our normal slow start, things started clicking.
After a odd bouncing ball caught the defense (read me and Trent) flatfooted in the first ten minutes of the match, Reed needed to come up big and make two or three consecutive saves to keep us level at zeros. He wasn't challenged many times to rest of the game, but, it was said many times, he looked like a real goalie out there on Sunday. A missed handball by the refs lead to the only goal for Byke early in the first half. This put us down 1-0, but definitely got our dander up as we attached strongly from the point forward.
There were several players worthy of the Golden Boot this week. Reed's stellar work was discussed. Newcomer, legacy and youngin' Nick Jenig pushed in two goals in his Das Magic debut by being in the right place and the right time. Trent anchored the defense and Virgis was his normal solid self as defensive midfield. Ryan Schnider injected a much needed boost to our attach when he arrived and was a key to the movement on the top.
In a top-notch performance, the young veteran Chad put it all together on Sunday. From defense to passing to shooting, Chad was on fire. The first assist was off a dead ball on the fan sid of the field from about thirty-five yards out. He hit it wide to Ryan who headed it back into the middle and Nick J. knocked it in tying the score at 1. Later, he beat the fullback outside and buried home a fifteen yarder for the what turned out to be the game winner making the schore 2-1 in favor of Das Magic. Another cross into the goal mouth from Chad was the lead in to Nick's second. Paulie beat a defender and the goalie to the ball on the six to round out the score card.
It was a solid start against a mediocre team, let's not ease off the gas going into the next match.
