Das Magic 2 - Chicago Dynasty 2
Chad said, 'Man, the field looks big...', with a late night before and only seven Magicians five minutes before the match, all agreed, the field looked huge! We even received a warning from the Ref that we needed to start by fifteen minutes past game time. Not to worry we told him, and soon, we had a full squad and then some.
Playing a double stopper with Chris and Ryan, and some speed on the wing backs with Chad and Bullet, we weren't giving any ground to the Chicago Dynasty. With the wind howling into our faces, the kick off started the match. Unfortunately, about fifteen minutes in, a quick counter resulted in a break that required Henry (who was playing well in goal), to play the ball with his hands outside the box. Consequently, he was issued a red card. We went down one man and I stepped into goal in his stead.
Excellent defense made the remainder of the half pretty uneventful in goal for Das. Although our passing and ball movement was great, it generated no goals. The ball was moving from the middle, side to side on quick, short one and two touch passes like a Das-drill. Chris, Ryan, Irish, Chad, Virgis, Mark and Bullet were all playing smart, simple balls looking for cracks in the defense. We broke through a few times, but, the finishing did not match the buildup.
As the second half started, we saw more of the same on both sides. In another event that put us down eleven versus nine, Chad was issued his second yellow for kick at the opponents feet. It hurt, but, we soldiered on fighting hard...But, about twenty-five minutes in, I was beat short-side as the ball just squirted between the post and my foot. We came right back minutes later when Ben pulled in a pass and sent Chris wide right with a leading pass to the corner. Chris returned the favor and dropped a sweet cross on Ben's head at the far post for a 1-1 tie.
We were holding our own when a shot came out of the crowd at the eighteen and deflected off Fulton's back; it slide just high of my left hand to give the lead to the opponent. At 2-1, tt looked as if we were not going to be able to get a point in the standings. We pushed forward again. This time Ryan out dribbled two defenders and the net minder and popped in the ball to tie up the match.
The last ten minutes we were tired and they were attaching. The shots came hot and heavy, but we held our line. Here was the commentary about that from Mark Mitchell:
Due to numerous top notch clutch saves, Das Magics new goalie earns nickname. Bob "Elgatto" Vucinic was a key player in today's 2-2 tie. His stellar cat like reflexes in goal was something to be seen. Elgatto earned the golden boot by pawing away multiple shots that were sure goals. He was carried off the field by fellow magicians as the fans chanted EL GAT TO. All 3 of them.
