Das Magic 2 - Chicago Dynasty 2
We Das old timers love to talk about our soccer history and proficiency, but, it is the young whipper-snappers that have been holding the club together during this summer of vacations and injuries. In particular, Austin and Nick Jenig and Bryan Dillberg. Also, as of later, Sean Leschkie has made a huge impact on the defensive side of the ball. Without these four lads, we would only have had eight players this past two weeks.
We came our strong against an intense and well-warmed-up Chicago Dynasty. These boys brought their own tents and were warming up at least fourty-five minutes before game time. Despite are lack of preparation, we struck first when a well-crossed ball from Nick on the deep right wing, found Paulie in front of the goal. He pushed the ball toward the goal and off a defender to give us a 1-0 lead just minutes into the match.
It didn't take long for the Dynasty to equalize with a ball hit to the weak side on a corner-kick on a header goal. The game was fast and intense on a very hot and humid day. They opponent was closing open field quickly as were we. We had more chances, but, their defense played solidly with their goalie putting in a top notch performance.
Things stayed tight, but, this week's golden boot player, Sean 'Hoover' Leschkie was vacuuming up all opportunities that got by our own solid defense. That is, until a crossed-ball was deflected on a very good save by Reed (who, again, was excellent in the net), into the path of a Dynasty player that was then knocked over the line. With less than fifteen minutes left, Das was down 2-1.
Not wanting to lose a well played game, we threw everything into a desparate attach. We were going at them from all sides. Eventually, a corner-kick was headed into the mouth of the goal by Kyle Donahue with just enough 'english' to get by the pile of players and the goalie.
We had even more opportunities to score, alas, the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
